I went outside our yard to capture some of the frost on all of the plants really early in the morning! In Lightroom, I used split toning to create a subtle complimentary color palette using blue and orange in the image. I also got some cool photos of our Christmas Tree by using an extremely open aperture of 1.2. I then used manual focus to make the Christmas Tree blurry, and the result was a tree with really beautiful bokeh!

I just got back from California, and the views were absolutely GORGEOUS! We went to Huntington beach and I took some sunrise and sunset photos. The waves were so big, and there were surfers surfing out in the ocean! My favorite photo I took was either the sunset of the beach at Huntington beach or the picture of the wave with the rainbow through it. I really love this photo, mostly because the surfer is a silhouette against pretty sunsets, and I love the shapes of the waves and how the sun is reflecting right by his feet. This one was also an interesting one to edit, because it was hard getting the details in both the shadows and the highlights. I edited in Lightroom, and the first thing I did was increase the exposure and bring down the highlights, and then bring the shadows up, and then set the white and black points. This made it into a more HDR feel, and then to really make the image pop I also upped the clarity and vibrance. After these changes the image looked pretty good, but the sky was still too bright and the water really didn't pop. So, I used gradient filters to increase contrast and lower exposure in the sky, and then using adjustment brushes to make the color more blue in the water. After sharpening and some noise reduction (and a little bit of a vignette), the image was ready to showcase. Here's the before image at the bottom, and as you can see it lacks the contrast and color that the finished image has. A couple of nights ago there was the most beautiful sunset! I got some pictures of our farm with the sunset!
I always try to get my images exactly how I want them in camera, but sometimes, depending on the conditions, it's not possible. The image above was taken in a field near Fargo, and the colors of the sunset were gorgeous! I went out and took a panorama, while also getting three separate exposures for each of the six images I used to make the panorama. I edit my photos using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop, and this image already looked pretty awesome, so I didn't have to edit it that much. The first thing I did was combine each of the exposures to create six different HDR images. I then created the panorama through Lightroom's Panorama feature. I increased the shadows to +100 and then lowered the highlights to -100. This created an image where I could see both the foreground and the sunset. The next thing I did was boost the vibrance and saturation to create some wonderful colors in the sky. I also warmed up the colors a bit by changing the white balance to more orange and pink. I adjusted the white and black point, and then boosted the clarity. My image looked pretty good...but the sky was still too bright. I used a gradient filter to darken the sky, and then I finished the image with some noise reduction and a vignette!
The Kindred Vikings did an awesome job playing last week! I tried to get some cool shots of the action plus some shots of some of the players with the big lights as backlights. Enjoy!
I had such a fun time taking pictures of the Nipstad family! The light was so pretty that night, and the fall colors were so amazing!
I went out behind our house to capture some amazing pictures of the sunset! The clouds were so pretty, and it was about 20 minutes after the actual sunset. I captured an HDR of the scene so I would get all the detail in both the highlights and the shadows.
Here's a photo I took last night of the dust on the horizon. I love how the dust is like a little blanket over the beans! The clouds were so pretty and pink, and this was about 15 minutes after the sun went down. This is an HDR image shot with a Canon 24-105mm 4L lens on a Canon 5D Mark III. I combined all of the exposures in photoshop, and then changed the white balance so the clouds looked more pink and blue.
I had such a fun time getting to take Zoe's senior photos! We took them in downtown Fargo and also went to the countryside around the Fargo-Moorhead area. Here's some of them below:
I had a lot of fun taking the Odegaard family's pictures this Sunday at our church! Even though it was pretty sunny that day, I managed to take most of the pictures in the shade!
I took some photos at our lake last weekend of the sunset. The airplane photo was a composite of an image of a plane I took at sunset and a picture of a dock I took at sunrise. It was fun putting them together in photoshop! We also caught a snapping turtle that I got some pictures of!
